Well then may I ask you my questions personally here since I can not post them on the forum,
1. Does the OS affect what graphics cards you can use.
2. Does the OS actually affect the graphics of a video game.
3. Is Windows an operating system or an application?
these are all obvious questions just tyring to prove a point of course.

1. it depends if you want to use it to it's fullest extent... only Vista fully supports DX10...
2. not really, except the differences that DX10 will make compared to DX9 (remember only Vista supports DX10)...
3. OS... you can read the rationale of my choice here...

but dx9 to dx10 is really increases performance, not really graphics correct?
(I KNOW THIS IS COMPLETLY WRONG AND HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HES TLAKING ABOUT BUT...)
my friend says windows is an application and dos is the operating system. is this true?

also my friend says that the OS changes thwee quality of the graphics because of the graphic decoder.
does this even exist?

false... the newer versions of directx (or their updates) also add far more complex levels of programming by supporting newer shader programs, sound emulation programs, etc...

Yes but this has nothing to do with the operating system... this is direct x... also also my friend says that the OS changes thwee quality of the graphics because of the graphic decoder.

okay... if you want to fully support DX10 and all of it's features... then you HAVE to run Vista... if you want DX9 and all of it's features, you have the option of running mostly any other current offering of Microsoft OS (2000, XP, Vista, etc.)...

does that make sense? you need to run Vista to take advantage of DX10... XP or previous versions of windows WILL NOT SUPPORT DX10...

I realize all this sorry about the dumb questions I was just proving my friend wrong, (I already know all of this he just does not believe me) Also can you please post that windows is an os again and that dos is not the os, because he keeps telling me windows is he application and dos is the os... I know this is completly false...

it's okay, i was just explaining it to you... and actually DOS is an OS... basically an OS is something that can allocate system resources, prioritize system requests, act as an input/output interpreter, and manage file systems... so both DOS and Windows are OS's... DOS is just an earlier version of one... Windows still has the option to run in the command-line mode that DOS did...
