Quiet CPU Cooler

What CPU coolers does everyone have? Can anyone recommend a good passive cooler, or one that is VERY quiet?

Right now I'm using the Evercool Shark, it's quiet, but it's just not keeping my CPU temp low enough that I feel comfortable overclocking.

ahah I'm not sure that'll be an upgrade to my existing CPU cooler.

I was thinking more on the lines of the Zalman 9700, Scythe Ninja and Tuniq Tower :).

i think i missed an inside joke over here....but anyways....diduknowthat PC Eye has a zalman, im not sure which though, i can pretty much gaurantee its a 9700, so just ask him. he'll help :D

No inside joke, dukt just mentioned better cooling; the one I linked keeps my D 940 at 31*C Idle, and I know the Q6600 runs cooler, so figured WTH:) Didn't know what he had already, but it's all good:)

oh lol, coolio:cool:

ThatGuy16 has the 9700 and he says he can hardly hear it over his regular case fans (NZXT Apollo)
Ive heard from a few people that it's very quiet for it's size and cooling abilites.

My friend has the 9700 and I can EASILY hear it over his case fans...however it's not too loud..especially considering the fact that his case fans consist of 2 250MM fans.

Here's a page comparing various heatsinks. It shows how well they cool, and how loud they are.

hm very interesting website! It seems that the Scythe heatsinks are great when it comes to silence. However, i did notice that almost all of their heatsinks use the stop heatsink clip mount method. This mounting method seems a little too flimsy for such a large and heavy heatsink.

Does anyone have the Tuniq Tower? How slow can you run the fan while keeping the temperature down?

Ask Kornowski, he's got the Tuniq Tower, but I'd recommend the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a Scythe fan on, it's supposed to be very quiet.

PC eye also thinks his Antec Tri-Cools are inaudible on the high setting.

At 5V, the lowest stock setting, the Zalman 9700 runs at roughly 1400RPM. Zalman fans have a bit of a rougher noise character as well, sort of a roaring sound. At anything above 5V it becomes very audible in an otherwise quiet case, but at 5V you shouldn't really notice it unless your case is genuinely silent.

I'm not really sure why it's marketed as a "Computer Noise Prevention System." It's a performance cooler, not a silent cooler. For gamers and overclockers.

If you want something truly silent you want the Scythe Ninja and a good 120mm fan. However, even the fan that comes with it is quieter than the 9700 on low. 1200RPM at 12V.

My Zalman 9700 runs @ high 24/7 and it's hella loud. Dunno if that helps, but, whatever. :)

if you go with a scythe, don't go with the ninja. The Mugen (or infinity) is much better.
The cpu in my sig doesn't get above 45c. I've got the fan attached to a fan controller. And i've got all fans on low speed (that's running them just below 5v). The stock scythe fan that comes with it is practically inaudible at that speed.

I bet that if i don't oc my cpu i can easily take off the cpu fan. I do have a well ventilated case though.

Pics are in my sig if you want to see.

My Zalman 9700 is very quiet at low speed.

This morning I opened up the bios and saw my CPU at 19 Degrees!! On the lowest fan setting! This is with the paste that came with it, after settling in of course.

The only thing I can hear in my case is my GPU fan and sometimes when idle my hard drive.

Uh Hu... :)

My TT runs on full all the time, it isn't loud at all! If you run it on the lowest setting, you don't even know it's on! I'm sure you could run it passively too!

With the fan on full, I'm getting 29c idle...

Hope this helps!
