Quieting my PC.

Hey everybody. I recently purchased an HP Pavillion (Intel Core 2 [email protected] ghz, 2 gigs of ram, XP pro).

It is a little on the loud side for me. I was wondering if you all could recommend some efficient ways for me to cut down on the noise level of my Comp.

Thanks.

That's strange... Normally PC's like that are rather quiet. My Compaq was much more quiet than my current PC. Heh, but it also didn't have a GPU or chipset fan :P

Anyway, you could replace all the fans with runs that run more quiet or more efficient. If you go more efficient, you can hopfully slow them down somehow(perhaps an additional fan controller) so you still get decent air flow.

You also should find out which fans are noisy. Sometimes it's really just a fan or two that's bad. Typically smaller chipset fans can be quite noisy. If you can pinpoint this as being the problem, there are passive cooling solutions on Newegg.

This computer is LOUD lol. I turn it off at night so I can sleep. It's really upsetting me, cus I dropped some good money on it. I opened my case, to see what was so damn loud. It seems to be coming from the front of my PC...

I'm not exactly an expert at computer modifications. I have installed extra hard drives and ram before. Would replacing these fans be difficult for me?

i would get some silica noise dampeners. look at Newegg.com under thermaltake, thats the brand. they are 1.99, i think

Thanks for the help.

I have one of those removable media drives...

I haven't removed it since I got my computer lol

No exaggeration, it was causing at least 50% of the noise.

A lot of prefab computers come with one, or maybe two small fans.

I just recently put my hp m1090n into a p180b so i could add more storage (the factory case only had one hard drive mount) and it made a world of difference as far as noise goes.

I can still hear my cpu fan over everything, tho. Next chance i get to go to a computer shop, i'm gonna pick up a quiet cooler for it.

Problem is, tho, it's a prescott 3.6, probably one of the hottest processors ever made, so i don't know if anything's gonna be able to keep it cool, and be quiet, except maybe water.
