r.i.p to ati

I have not seen the article, but I've seen this coming for a while now.

I don't know why it hasn't happened sooner tbh.

I don't really understand why....anyone that knows anything about graphics cards knows that ATI is AMD....so why the need to change and just make it a confusing transition? Dumb.

Same thing, though just different name.
ATi GPU drivers were (and still are) downloaded from wwwamdgame.com or something like that

ati.com or amd.com (ati.com redirects to amd.com).

yeah it is a little sad to lose the name. we should make some t-shirts saying something like "i was building computers when ati still existed" :P

Yea I agree, I would have preferred it to still be ATi rather than AMD black vision  (I know it isn't black vision).

If they keep the red theme going, they can be partially forgiven though

Doubt they will since most AMD inspired cases are red themed usually anyways. This shows you that red is popular to them thus they wont axe it.

speaking of red inspired amd cases, what do you guys think of the lian li p50r? there is someone that is selling that case near my house from his garage for $110, looks pretty new to me.

From a marketing standpoint it makes a lot of sense. Those of you who are regulars here are not really a marketing demographic. You will read tech reviews, benchmarks, and so forth before deciding what to buy. However, you average person will now see the AMD logo a lot more often when shopping for computers and computer related equipment.

It gets the AMD name out there and exposes it more. You all gotta remember, that most of the basic marketing is done to your average person, not a power user. Then there is the marketing schemes to power users (like over clocking, super crazy cooling systems, and so forth) which are a whole different sort demographics for a different market.

So, now if an Intel based computer boots up with an AMD video card, the first thing users will see is the AMD video bios loading. It gets the name out to all sorts of potential customers.

well in all fairness the p50r on newegg was only $150 when it first came out and the price sky rocketed within the following week... zzz

so he probably got it for that cheap. it seems to be in pretty good condition, though there is a noticeable scratch off the upper right corner of the case. not too big of a deal for me though... i think i might just grab it just simply for the cool dragon design lol

gonna see if i can haggle for a bit less though..

Lol it'd be much worse if they changed the name AND changed the color to like PINK. And maybe even went back to doing simple cards, no game cards. It would bring out sum tears

People that buy OEM computers, most dont even know what AMD or ATI is or anything about it to a point. People that build their own, already knows AMD ownes ATI. Makes no difference one way or the other to me. They can call them Big Johnsons for all I care.
