Radeon 9800 SE --> 9800 Pro

Looks like it would work, and should work. Yeah you are definately going to need something new to cool it though. Going from the SE to pro is a big jump but definately possible with that heatsink. Good luck, post back with your results. You should use the "Rage3d" (google it) utility to clock it, or do you plan on flashing it to 9800 pro?

He means flashing its own bios.

Flashing the video card's bios (thereby giving it the Pro version bios instead.) :D

Okay the card I was i was going to get was 9800 SE. It is practically the same card as 9800 pro. Well it IS the same card with one exception... That it has 4 pixel pipelines enabled. So the manufacturers where like.. Hmm whats a way we can make more money off faulty cards? Because when they manufacture the cards sometimes one or two of the pixel pipelines will be damaged. So they just disabled that ' row ' of four. and slap a 9800 SE label on it. But. When Demand > Supply they have to put ones that have 8 good pipelines. So if you get a good one like that you can put the bios of a radeon 9800 pro on it and it enables the four pipelines.. and Voila, you have a 9800 pro.
And I said I was going to get, because after 5 days with newegg still ' processing ' I was like. %!*@ this. So I canceled my order, and yesterday. I went to zipzoomfly and ordered me a real 9800 pro. Because it is really only 40 dollars more if I consider having to buy a new good GPU heatsink fan. So I was like mightaswell not take the risk.

Sorry about the big block of text. And someone please correct me i am wrong anywhere in that post explaining it, that it is my understanding.

: Bastard.. Beat me to it :

Well.. at least now you can clock the hell out of that. =) 9800 pros are GREAT clockers. Which brand did you get? ATI, MSI, Sapphire (hope not)?
The MSI 9800 pros have a 9800xt Core btw.

I read a review on it, was i was gonna get a MSI, once again I changed my mind because I saw the FPS difference between 6800 GT - Ultra and 9800 xt and doom three and i decided ill wait another week or two and get a 6800 GT
I was seeing a 20 - 30 frame difference so I was like.. Hmmm I think it might be worth waiting.

ok ive never heard of unlocking 9800se's pixel pipelines, but it has 4 and a 9800pro has 8. they have the same amount of vertex shaders though. also, check to see if your 9800se is 256 bit, i know pro is, however some 9800se's are 128bit.
my opinion is that it will never run as well as a 9800pro.

yes, a 6800gt is way better than a 9800xt obviously. the physical card is different, the 6800gt has 16 pixel pipelines and 6 vertex shaders.
the 9800xt on the other hand has 8 pixel pipelines and 4 vertex shaders.
much different!

actually 9800pro MSI brand has the same core as the 9800xt, but it cant be flashed to become a 9800xt. i used to own an msi 9800pro and i tried it. something to do with the card conflicting with the 9800xt bios type... i duno exactly what went wrong.
