Hi,
I guess i'll get straight into it , i turned on my computer this mornin and A)the hardrive light stayed on and b) the monitors light stayed orange.
Then something strange happend, a burning smell came from the inside of the computer. I quickly yanked out all the cables and opened it up, low and behold it came from the Graphics card.

Anyway i tested the fan on it without the card in and found the fan wasn't running.
So my question is, how the hell do i take the fan out. I tried unscrewing it and it didn't budge.
If anyone has the same card and had the same situation plz help
(by the way)
My card is a Powercolor Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb  - AGP8X (MOBO Rstrict 4X)

Thanx in advance

Dezzar

Now if im not mistaken there arent any screws ... just them plastic thingies ... so take a pair of pliers/tweezers/fingers and squeeze them out ... after that you just gotta slide the heatsink off the chip

sorry praetor but that aint my card, if I had a dig. camera i would paste at pic in
but it does hav screws

u see the screws, they're inside the heatsink, and also the other thing holding it down is those little plastic things ure talking about, except they have springs on them(??)

Yeah press down to get access to the tips and use pliers to squeeze the one-way tip together and they'll pop out :)

Also are you sure you have the card you said? Cuz (1) You dont have a molex power requirement which is normal for 9800Pros and (2) I went to the offical site and the board layout isnt the same (http://www.powercolor.com/gallery/AGP_9800_R98-PC3H_G/index.htm)

You tested the fan on the Graphics card right? What method did you use to test the fan?

I tested the graphics card by just a)just plugging in the extra power thingy and b) i plugged the card in and plugged the power thingy in & no luck

do you think its possible that the oily residue from the heatsink has stuck it down/ and if so do you think it's ok to pull it off carefully :D

thanx 4 all your help guys, i managed to pull it off and it was held down by some kind of yellow double sided sticky stuff, proberbly 4 the best contact

Now i need a new fan ;)
