Ok. I have recently installed the Radeon x1300pro vid. card onto my Dell 8300. Now I have a question about the power supply. I know I need to upgrade it since it is only a 250w. I am just wondering should I put my old video card back in to insure that nothing crashes or anything happens until I get the power supply?? Or will I be ok for now, if I don't run anything besides word processor, internet, and no games. I am really worried about this. Thanks for all who took time to answer this newb question!!

You should be fine if you really want to install it now. I had a 250W on 2 IDE hard drives, 2 optical drives, a P4 processor and a GeForce 6600 graphics card. I didn't leave it that way for long, though; and I wouldn't recommend you do so either for the sake of your parts, if you would like to go ahead and put it in...

That's true, but I did just a little bit of a hack-job to the back plate of my case, and it works great!!! :) (btw, you'll need a drill, pliers and a strong pair of wire snippers/cable cutters; a pair of hedge clippers will work in a pinch :)) Oh and don't forget about 2 hours to get that hole properly cut to the right size... ;)

just to be on the safe side i wouldn't leave it like this....i would make sure you had the proper PSU for everything in your system....they're probably correct that it will be fine if you don't do anything that will cause heavy load but there's always that chance it could crap out and kill several parts in your pc

i would probably get at least a 325 watt power supply. AT LEAST. recommend 350. i would also get one as soon as you can.

Thats pushing it. I would not recommend getting anything until you upgrade. Look and see what the amps on the 12v+ rail are.

Thanks for the reply fellas. I was so paranoid that I went ahead and put in my old card that night. Anyway...I've found a 405w powersuppl made by power and cooling inc. about 120 bucks...So, I have purchased that and am waiting for it to come in. Thanks for all the replies!!
