radiation of cdrom

Hi!
Almost every cd device has a warning on its cap about radiation of laser when open. When is this radiation dangerous to my eyes? I mean, i want to clean it but to do that i have to open it and then when i look into the laser, what will happen? (power off, of course)

Potentially the intensity of the light radiation emitted from the laser (if turned on at the time you opened the case) will burn your retinal cells and send you blind.

Why the hell do you need to open it to clean it? If you want to clean the lens then buy a lens cleaning cd. I cant think of any reasons why you would want to open a cd case to clean it.

well i thought maybe there are some dust to clean

Ok i think ill better not open it then ,but after all, is there any radiation when the cdrom is not attached to any wire? (like no power)

nah, its fine if theres no power, but just dont open it
