Raid 0 setup

I have two 500gb wd black hard drives and would like to set up raid 0 on a GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P motherboard. What would be the best way on setting this up? Will this work ok with these componets?

You have to enable raid in the bios first and then go into the raid utility to configure the raid. What operating system are you running?

Be prepared to reinstall Windows as well.

I was waiting to see what operating system he was running to continue my post. If he is still running xp, he would need either a floppy drive for the drivers or slipstream them into a new install cd.

Yup, I remember trying to do that for my RAID 0 array, I couldn't find drivers anywhere, so I gave up until I installed Vista.

Vista 32 bit is what I was running.. for some reason after doing a bios flash one of my harddrives is not working ... this makes me so mad ...

I can load into my other harddrive and it is not there .... but it show up on the bios screen.... recovery says there is no C:

What the crap is up with WD to have a hard drive fail without a hint of notice ....

I went to gigabyte bios update f9 it has something to with raid could this have been what messed my hard drive up ... ????

When you flash the bios, it will reset settings back to default. You will need to go into the bios and change your raid setting if you had them setup already or sata ports if they have been disabled(most likely).

my other harddrive works fine though.... i have even switched the cables ... It is set to ide sata .. i checked it

Well either, the bios settings have been set to back to default and you need to double check or the bios update went bad. I'm sure however, that a setting just needs to be changed.

I do not have raid setup on either of my harddrives. i went to gigabyte ma790x-ud4p and got the latest bios since I am going to buy a phenom 965 and need this. After reboot my hardrive c: is not booting and is not showing up through my other harddrive. i would like to think there was something that I was missing but dang it does not look good...

Change the ports around to see if the drive that does work still boots or gets detected. If it doesn't then you just killed one of your sata ports. Please make sure that all sata ports in the bios are enabled.

Alright I went ahead and swapped cable no luck ... then I went into different recovery disk for vista and it says I need to format disk before i can use it.

If you format, you will lose everything. Did you check to make sure that all sata ports were enabled?

yes, they are enabled trust me I have checked and dooble checked.. I am using this pc right now with my other hard drive..

In the recovery it it stated to select the os from the list and it was not there...

It had a option to load driver and opened up a bunch of files but when I click on boot it said I needed to format the disk before i can use it ..

It shows up as unpartisioned space..

i did nothing to delete this disk ... i did a bios update to f9 and restarted and my hardrive disappeared .

You might have to take it in to have someone look at it. Do you have any computer savvy friends that can help you out? Does the hard drive still work, have you put it in another system? I'm just throwing you some suggestions to try.
