Hey guys,

im thinking of setting RAID 1 on my Western digital 400Gb drive i use as storage just as a backup incase one fails.

are RAID 1 good and do they have to be the exact same drive?

in same drive i mean do they have to be the same brand make or can i just get any 400gb 16mb cache 7200rpm Sata drive?

They do not have to be the exact same drive. I have a Western digital and a Samsung in Raid 1, both are 250 GB and one is 8mb cache and the other is 16 mb cache. If you have problems with HDD's going bad on you like I did a few years ago (all WD'S to be exact), then Raid 1 is a very good option for you.
