Raid 5

DELL 220s DAS, PERC 3/di controller, 2003 Server:

The DAS has 14 slots, 9 of which are filled. If the 9 disks form a RAID 5, can I build a seperate RAID 5 with the remaining slots? Also, I've never seen 9 disks in a RAID 5. What is the maximum recommended for most raid controllers?

I think you can only have 1 raid array in each channel, so youd have to rebuild the array with 2 * 7 disk arrays. This would be ok, coz you lose performance when you cross chanels anyway
