Hey guys,

Pulling the trigger on 2 more hdds to run Raid5 after cyber monday.

The hdd I use: hdd http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

The mb I use: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...&cm_mmc=TEMC-RMA-Approvel-_-Content-_-text-_-

I know know mb supports raid, so I don't need a raid card right? Just raid software? Can someone recommend a good software (esp for starting)? What else do I need besides 3 hdds and raid software?

I also wonder if it's best to raid with identical hdds (so I'd purchase 2 more of the 1TBS on cyber monday), or if it doesn't matter then I think i'll get two 2TB hdds to go with my existing 1TB. Thanks!

All help is greatly appreciated.

You don't use software. Software RAID is very poor. You're going to configure the RAID array in the BIOS of your motherboard.

Technically that is still a software based raid... but yea, you will need to configure the disk controller on the motherboard to manage the drives in a Raid 0 or 1, and then the OS may supply drivers if their included...i dont know though.
