i have 4 hdd's and want to raid them.my question is, does the cache matter when raiding?all 4 hdd's are 7200 rpm's, and 160gb. they just have different size cache, ranging from 2mb-16mb.

You will have degraded performance but it will work.

i dont really know what you mean by degraded.degrade as in it will degrade my hdd's over time? i have two hdd's that are 16mb cache and the other two are 2mb and 8mb.will it be better to raid the two 16mb hdd's and not the two lower cache ones?will the speed of the two 16mb cache hdd's benefit if i add add the two other hdd's in raid with the higher cache ones?what im trying to say is if i add the two lower cache hdd's to the raid with the two 16mb cache ones will i get faster/better performance than just the two 16mb ones?

thanks in advance.

Yes, you are better off raiding the drives with the same cache together. If you raid a 2 or 8 with a 16 then overall the read write process is a little slower.
