I am building a 3 hd system one hd for the programs and 2 for storage. I want the 2 storage drives to be identical.

Will I need any special hardware or software?

Will I be able to access date from these drives on a network?

You can mirror two or more identical drives, so say you have 2x 120GB drives for storage. You can RAID them using RAID 1, then you will have a total of 120GB storage, and you will have a backup copy of the storage drive.

To use RAID, you need a RAID controller. Most newer motherboards come with some sort of RAID controller, and is fine for most needs.

In Windows it will be seen as an ordinary hard drive, so you should be able to access it over the network.
