Gentlemen,

Have any of you installed a raid system of disks, I forget which number it is but it is the one that alternates reads from disk to disk to increase data speed.

Is it worth it? Does it speed things up significantly?

I have installed RAID 0 if that is what you mean. It splits the data across 2 or more disks (called striping) for increased read and write speeds. It was cool to have but I eventually destroyed the array because I used software raid so I had about 10 sec of the array being recognized before I could boot. Which cancelled out the increased boot time that I had. The biggest benefit for me was that I had 640gb of storage instead of 2 320gb.

You already said the answer your self: If it alternates from disk to disk to " Increase data speed" im pretty sure it speeds up thing.
