RAID0, RAID1, how?

ok i was reading up on raid0 and raid1. so i learned that raid1 is when you have 2 hard drives acting as one, basically if one were to fail, you'd have the other as a backup with all the same information.

in raid0, or striping, you're using 2 hard drives as one. more or less to prevent a bottle neck of information, thus increasing performance. but you're only as strong as your weakest link, or hard drive. 40 gig HDD and a 60 HDD will be treated as 2 40 gig HDD's, losing 20 gigs of space.

question is...how much performance? very noticeable? if so, how would i go about doing this? would i have to buy certain software to configure it? like i said, i just read up on it. in like the last 20 minutes lol. i'm building a new computer and would like it as fast as possible. if you gonna do it, do it big.

again, thanks for the help in advance

Well, you should be able to notice an improved loading time in games, or loading large files, but otherwise there shouldn't be that much of an improvement in normal computing with RAID0. As for how to do it, your motherboard should come with RAID drivers, i set up my dad's computer with RAID 0 by making a raid floppy disc and popping it in before installing the OS.

if your motherboard was released before vista, vista should have the drivers already all you have to do is build the raid first then install the os.
