raiding sata with pata

so i found out that the 680i raids can be done with sata and pata combined together :) if it works it will be awesome since i have so many patas lol.
 
that means that your SATA drives are going to be restricted to the speed of your PATA drives, tho

and this could always be done in software mode via windows disk management, but it's really not recommended

You'd probably only loose a couple megabytes per second. SATA drives aren't a lot faster than PATA drives, even some are slower.
 
save money? RAID costs many many times more than just one or two drives.

that makes no sense, raid costs the same amount as the hard drives you buy

and it IS to save money, the "I" stands for inexpensive, google it

it was created as a way to use multiple inexpensive low-capacity, low-speed drives as one higher capacity, higher speed drive, and then later as a practical, real-time backup solution for large capacity servers
