RAM Adapters?

I've seen sodimm to dimm adapters so that, in theory, you can put a laptop chip into it.. and then plug into a desktop..'in theory'
Whether it works, or not..I have zero idea.. and it's not something I'd want to try on my system..

Aside from SODIMM->DIMM on the same standard (ddr3->ddr3, for instance), nope.
The memory controller would also need to support that standard. There were a few that supported multiple standards such as Phenom II which had DDR3 and DDR2 support, but due to differing physical layout you won't be able to, for instance, run a DDR1 stick in a DDR3 slot, or something similar to that.
