Aside from SODIMM->DIMM on the same standard (ddr3->ddr3, for instance), nope.
The memory controller would also need to support that standard. There were a few that supported multiple standards such as Phenom II which had DDR3 and DDR2 support, but due to differing physical layout you won't be able to, for instance, run a DDR1 stick in a DDR3 slot, or something similar to that.
