Ram broken?

Hatation

I have a problem
Yesterday when i wa gonna play quake as soon as i entered the game it freezed.
Not just the game the whole computer freezed so i had 2 restart it.
This happened over and over again.
At first i thought it was something wrong with my quake.
So i tried 2 reinstall it, but when I did that it came up a warning saying that "there is too little memory to perform this" (ofcourse it wasnt the harddrive memory it was refering to cause i have 50 GB free space)
eventually after restarting it worked 2 install it. but same it freezed when I got in
Then i tried playing grand theft auto (GTA)
And as soon as i came into the game, the computer freezed.

I let the computer be over the night and in the morning I tried playing again and it worked! (for 1 minute) then it crashed again

And then I opened the computer up and cleaned it.
While cleaning it I found out that the fan on the graphic card was a little bit loose.
One side was hanging like 1 cm down from the card.
I attached it again.( dont know if this was the problem)

and after this it works 2 play quake but...
Its very laggy( not all the time) just every 10th second it gives me lag that gives me like 8 Frames per second for a short while.

So any1 got an Idea whats wrong with my computer?

Ok it could be you Graphics card over heating.
To check download a utility called Everest Home Edition
From http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

Temps will be under Sensor

Also referring to the fact that "there is too little memory to perform this"
just check how much RAM windows is detecting by either using Everest above or right clicking my computer and properties and it should state down the bottom your total RAM or Start>Run>dxdiag will quote there your total system memory.

If you were experiencing bad ram I would have thought you would be having problems all over the place (from experience) such as OS restarts etc.

However if you still want to check for bad RAM use a tool such as this one from Microsoft
http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp#top

All instruction are on that page.

Hope this helps solve your problem

ok

I dont know if I found the problem but

I used speedfan.
cause i already had it on my computer.

And on the temperature meaters it says cpu 0c and a blue arrow
Ambitien 46 C (swifting from green J to red arrow up)
Remote 61C when playing quake 53 when not(a burning flame all the time)
HdO 42C (a green J)

so what does remote stand for?
I guess it could be there the problem lies

I really want 2 test the ram too but there is a slight problem there
I dont have any disc reader heh ,

and what does those things that i have drawn a ring round do?
I mean what happens if i set speed03 to 100?

hmm.

well i would assume the remote is the graphics card. 42-61 is acceptable limit if under load etc.

but bit worried about CPU = 0C, is it possible there isn't a temperature monitor for the Proccessor. (you should be able to find that in the BIOS)

you might want to try everest just to make a comparison.

p.s what does your system report as your total RAM? refering back to the problem when it said that you did not have enough memory.

it said 512
and i have 2x 256 so thats correct
and i will try everest now

Ok well thats well with in the requirements of those games. and all RAM modules are reporting so not a seating issue.

CPU = Processor
Ambient = General air temperature (usually the mobo sensor)
Remote = is most likly the Graphics card
HD = Harddrive temperature

The thing you have circled is the Speed (%) at which the fans are operating

Not sure why 01 = 0% !!!

are all your fans operating? ( have a peep with the computer on)

yea its opened atm havent put the shield on since I cleaned it.
All the fans are running..
And i had a look on everest now all the temps are the same there
Couldnt find cpu temperature this time either.

ouu prays the lord ram test needed floppy disc :D

Im not english so I just remembered that floppy means ehmm disket : not Cd

You can put the Case side ("Shield") back on, it has been proven that computers are better cooled with the case together. unless you have an external desk fan blowing air directly in, ofcourse.

yes the RAM test can be done either by making a bootable Floppy or a Bootable Compact-Disc (CD).

yea

yea I heard that 2.

So I did that test and it sait there was nothing wrong with the ram.
So dunno what there is left 2 do .?

Ok so it looks like it’s not the RAM or a Heat issue.

So the next question is one I should have asked first

Can you think of anything that changed (hardware or software) before you started having problems?

Also perform full system scans with both anti-virus software and anti-spy (see security thread area for info on products to use if you don’t have any.)

And if you want you could post a Hijackthis log in a new thread in the Security thread area. (I won’t be able to help with this thou)

But apart from that I can only think of performing an OS install.

If your OS is XP you can perform a repair install.
