RAM/CPU Speed Confusion...

Hello-

I've recently started a new job, and I haven't been working on PC's in a while, I've been in the Mac world for about 4 years...

I am a little confused upon a closer inspection of this Dell Optiplex 745 they gave me about a few things that CPU-ID is reporting....

the CPU is a P4 641 - 3.20 ghz
however the Clock speed shown in CPU-Z is as follows:
Core Speed: 2393.9 mhz
Multiplier x 12
Bus Speed 199.5
Rated FSB 798.0

So if it's a 3.2 ghz processor, then why is it only running about 2.3-2.4 ghz?

The ram is confusing me as well... They seem to have installed 3gb...

Slot 1- DDR2 PC2-5300 512mb
Slot 2- DDR2 PC2-4300 1gb
Slot 3- DDR2 PC2-5300 512mb
Slot 4- DDR2 PC2-4300 1gb

Which seems a little odd to me... Wouldn't that mean it's not doing dual channel, and all teh 5300 is scaling back to 4300 and slowing everything down?

The mainboard as reported is Dell Inc.
0HR330
Chipset Intel Q965 Rev. C1
Southbridge is Intel 82801HB/HR (ICH8/R)

Bios version 2.3.1 Date: 5/21/2007

Any help/clarification is appreciated.

Thanks!

Intel StepSpeed Technology.

Yes.

I did not see anything in the BIOS about C1E, nor do I know what that is, but keep in mind, this is a Dell so it doesn't have the most customizable bios.

I know the Core 2's support it, but I wasn't sure if the P4's did or not, so it's fine if you don't see it.

Does the speed raise back up when you run a CPU intensive app?
