Would DDR2-1000 be overkill? I know the e6400 has a 1066MHz FSB...is the '1000' (or '800' in DDR2-800) the clock speed?

Ya unless you plan to overclock getting anything over ddr2-800 is a waste, because it will still be running at ddr2-800 speeds even if it is ddr2-1066. But when you get into overclocking its great because you can still be underclocking your ram even with an increased FSB, so it essentially takes the RAM overclocking out of the cpu overclocking. Its one less thing to work about, and you are gaurenteed for your RAM to run at higher speeds.

get corsair the best thing you can put into a core 2 duo system buddy... maybe a nice set of 2gb pc2-6400 from corsair would make you able to oc a 6400 to 2x more than a 6800 extrem
