RAM for PC

Hey!

Friends pc's got 256 of pc 2700 ram, its a packard bell i extreme desktop with a celeron 2.5 ghz processor, just quickly wondering if it defo takes pc 3200 ram, im goin to put a gig in it and ditch the 256 pc 2700. I can get the mobo model and find out, but think that it should be able to take it anyways right?

no no no no, I mean, Do you think the mobo will support the pc 3200 ram?, it would run at 2700 if I left the slower 256 module in there, but im just getting it a fresh 1 gig (2x 512) of pc3200 ram, I was just asking people if most mobo's that support 2700 also support 3200.
 
If his system came with 2700 speed RAM, most likely that's the highest speed it can support. However, it wouldn't hurt you to put 3200 speed RAM in there, as it will run at 2700 speed, as mentioned above. That technology is old enough now that I don't think there's really much price difference between 2700 and 3200.
 
then the question is, should I just get another 512 of the 2700, meaning that I dont have to throw away the 256 stick already in there? Also, do you think if I got the 2 x 512, it would run in dual mode? (ie- do all computers support dual mode)

Getting one 512MB stick of 2700 would be the best thing for you to do. Also, no, not all computers support dual channel mode. Most systems newer than two years do, but judging from your friend's processor, and the fact that it only came with 256MB of 2700, I highly doubt it supports it.
