Hi all

I just purchased 2 sticks of 1gb pc3200 ddr ram to be added to my HP Compaq dc7100 sff which ALREADY has 2 sticks of the exact same RAM installed (yes i have 4 ram slots).

However, When i go to My Computer and right click properties it says there is only 3.12gb RAM, not 4! Is there any reason for this?

Also, on my RAM sticks it says ddr 1gb pc400 instead of pc3200. Does this sound right? It is just generic RAM, nothing fancy.
Please help.

Your system uses a fair amount of ram also, the more RAM there is, the more RAM itss use, although that is a bit much, but it is completely understandable.....you check in your BIOS the amount of installed memory and post back.

Windows XP 32bit (and Vista 32bit) can only address around 3.5GB of RAM max, with the rest of the addresses reserved for addressing devices and video memory and what not. I've seen some decent sized ranges on how much RAM is actually available but for most people it's usually around 3GB. In short, your system is working normally :)
