RAM Help

Alright, about a year ago I had my brother purchase me some RAM. 1gb.

He knew what he was doing, but when I finally got it, it didn't work. I haven't been able to see him since to get his help.

Now, upon furthur inspection, on the current RAM thing in there, I found some of these numbers(This is one that works).

32Mx64 SDRAM
256MB(Not kidding), DDR, 166MHz, CL25
PC2700U-25330-A0

Checking out the 1gb I bought, all it says is "PC2700" on it.

The rest of the numbers on the RAM looked like serial numbers(On the one that works), so I didn't write them down.
But based upon that knowledge, what exactly do you guys think would work for me? I NEED to upgrade my RAM, it's so ridiculous now a days, and I can't really get a new comp.

I tried doing some research myself and checking Newegg.com, but I got so lost and confused I had no idea what to do.

I can't really give you guys any information on any of the hardware in the computer, since I wasn't the one who originally purchased it and I have very limited knowledge about PC internal hardware. Unless you can tell me how to find out the information, I can't really give it, sorry. >_<

Anyways, for anyone who helps me, thanks a ton. I greatly appreciate it. I'm looking to upgrade to 2gb of RAM, possibly 4 if possible. There are only two RAM slots in the computer, and I'm running XP. I don't really know the specifics on that, either, unless you guys could help me out with that.

Again, I'm sorry for how limited my information might be, or how unhelpful I can be, but I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

PC2700/DDR333, It really depends on what motherboard is in it. Since its a older DDR and only 2 slots you could be running into how much memory it supports plus how much it will read in each slot.

Download this and install and see if it will give you a motherboard make and model.

Okay, what exactly am I looking for? The Mainboard make and model?

Cause that's all I see that's closest, and it just says "Dell Computer Corp. Unspecified."

Also, CPU-Z and PC Wizard 08 both recognize that I have 1280mb of RAM, but for some reason, My Computer doesn't.
