Ram In Gaming

2 Gigs of RAM WILL HELP BATTLEIFIELD 2 SIGNIFICANTLY, CoD2 as well, not UO, but BF2 is the biggest improvement. BTW, go with OCZ Gold, 2x512, get it for $125 on newegg, but be sure its the one with cas - 2 and timing 2-2-2-5, thats the best bargain.

depends on the game, and if it runs in dual channel or not. for halo it might not make a difference for amount, but doom3 definitely needs alot. also, dual channel means loading twice as fast and such. definitely go with more, your comp will last you longer!
i have Corsair XMS ram 2-2-2-5 ddr400, works well. i got a nice discount though.

Actually it doesn't. In AMD based systems dual-channel allows for more bandwidth overall, but it won't load games twice as fast. Your CD-drive, HDD, and CPU determine load times as well, it's not totally RAM dependent. Simply jumping from single channel to dual channel is just 2X the RAM bandwidth, but you will only see a slight gain in load times (if any gain at all). More than likely your CD-ROM drive is the bottleneck if you're running the game off a CD.

there is about a 2fps difference between high end RAM and value RAM when playing games.

???but is 2fps worth the extra $$$$ that u spend for the branded RAM? i wunt say so???

surely the best thing to improve load times wud be to get a 10000rpm hardrive like a raptor. from test scores i have seen there is about a 5 second difference between a 7200 and a 10000RPM drive

What I do (and it helps my game speed immensely) is I either rip game cd's to iso's, or I do a full install and get a no-cd crack. I can run things smoothly with no cd that a better system would have problems touching while running off've the cd (for obvious reasons).

IMO, the main reason why people buy expensive ram is so they can overclock much higher. I would say go with Corsair ValueSelect for $85 then the Corsair XMS for $130 if you arnt going to do any major overclocking.
