When i first built my computer, back in October 2004, here it was:
MSI Neo2 PLatinum 939 pin
Athlon 64 3500+
1024 (2x512) Kingston ValueRam pc3200 (KVR400x64C3AK2/1G)
BFG 6800 GT
couple huge hard drives
everything ran fine for moe than a year now, and i wanted more RAM. My mobo manual says it can support up to 4 gigs, and in the little sheet of how the sticks should work out, my idea looked like it would work, even if only at DDR333.
I bought 2 more sticks of teh exact same model number Kingston ValueRam, and when i got them, i noticed that they arent exactly the same. They have the same part numbers, but different chip makers.
So i put in the RAM, it boots up, yay neato. I did realize that i had no noticeable speed increase at boot tho. with 1024 of RAM, i had things happeneing at 35,55,and 61 seconds. With my 2 gigs, things also happened at 35,55,and 61 seconds. I looked at the boot. Now my RAM is running at DDR200? the speeds cut in half. so i went into BIOS, and noticed RAM MHz was on "auto" i put it to 200, saved, restarted. Computer never even posted. Took it out, reset bios, tried again, with a force 133/266 setting. Works. but wow i wish it was faster! I change it to 166/333 it gets to the RAM check and counts up to around 1974980 K Ram, and never makes it to 2091 or so. Also never posts.
Does anyone have the same mobo as i do, and have 2 gigs of RAM that works? brand?
Heres the mobo manual:
