RAM & Internet Speed on My Wireless IBM Thinkpad Notebook

I have a IBM T23 Notebook which I use as my second computer, mainly for the internet in my bedroom when I'm too lazy to go to my study & use my desktop compuer. My Thinkpad has 512 RAM, XP, 40 Gigs & I get the internet by cable broadband, the connection of my T23 is wireless. The internet speed on the T23 by wireless is OK, not great- not terrible, certainly not as good as my desktop computer which is hardwired & has 1 gig of RAM. Too make a long story short, if I double the RAM in my T23 notebook from 512 RAM to 1 Gig will I see a noticeable improvement in my (wireless) internet speed or will it be a slight improvement at best. I don't really use the T23 for anything other then the internet. Thanks for any advice.

I wouldn't ecpect it to make much difference. If you wire the laptop to your router, I'd expect it to get comparable speeds to the desktop. Wireless connections aren't usually the fastest things in the world.

Depends on what protocol you use, I have a N network and that is rated at 108MB which is like the 100Mbit Ethernet's bandwidth. If you still use the B protocol which is only 11mbit, then yeah it would be pretty laggy. I would go for at the very least the 802.11G protocol which is 54MBPS.

RAM has no correlation with internet speed what so ever. The only difference is assuming your running slower slower RAM than the laptop supports, you might gain some overall performance. However, your network performance will not increase. As for being wireless, you really shouldn't notice any difference between wired and wireless when browsing the internet. As long as you have a good signal, you should be running at 11Mbps. Most modem's only have a 10Mbps ethernet port.
