RAM isn't passing POST

Hello!

I'm having a problem with my combination of ram, its not getting past POST.
The beep code is "BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE..." and doesn't end till I power the computer down.
I can get the computer to pass POST if I use one pair or the other pair of ram, so I'm assuming its a compatibility issue of using both pairs at once.

I'm rebuilding a comp using;

-Asus p5n-e sli motherboard
-2x Samsung 512mb 1Rx8 cards (to find with google: m378t6553ezs-ce6)
-2x Vitesta DDR2 553 cards

Both pairs of ram work fine and all my ram slots on the mobo work.
I was under the impression that you put matching pairs into matching slots, but could have two separate pairs of ram.
(Like both Vitesta cards in the A1/B1 (yellow) slots, and the two Samsung cards in the A2/B2 (black) slots.)

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Please be patient with me, I know I'm a hardware newbie.

Thank you for your time, I appreciate it!

I was under the impression not to mix match brands / models of RAM. Due to timings speed and such... Maybe i am wrong.

As far as i know you do match it up (ex. yellow to yellow, black to black).

Maybe this is going about it the wrong way, but what i would try is taking out a pair then try to boot into BIOS. If it works, try installing the second pair (on it's own) boot into BIOS. If that works, then i would go on my theory, don't miss match brands/models of RAM.

Unless someone else comments that i am a total idiot, then disreguard my thoughts and opinions :) just going by what i was told.

I was reading "Ram 101" in the FAQs section and found:

"What Do I Need to Run Dual Channel?

2. Two or four sticks of identically spec'd memory (they dont need to be the same brand and make although that helps but they need to have the same clock and timings or be capable of the same clock and timings)"

I think my problem might be that the Samsung set is DDR and the Vitesta are DDR2.

Another question I have, if you go into BIOS and change the clock/timings for ram, does that setting get saved in the ram or to the BIOS? I was curious if I could plug the sets in one at a time and tune em to each other?

EDIT: Found the answer to DDR with DDR2 question. :P See? I'm not completely useless. hahaha

The 2 brands are most likely not compatible with each other. Never even heard of Vitesta. You should use all sticks by the same brand name.

Alright, fair enough. I'll see what other spare ram I can dig up, maybe get something to work. I was given a bunch of computer parts from a friend that totaled out to be better than what I was using for a desktop. Guess it doesn't need to be fancy since its only used to hold all my media on my house's LAN, so I can access it with my laptop.

I'm sure you all know how fun upgrades can be. :D Might as well upgrade the Mothership. haha

Thanks for your help guys!
