Hi am new to gaming pc and am wondering how much ram I would need for a mid-range pc. I will probably just be playing like starcraft 2. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Nothing less than 2gb of DDR2 or DDR3 ram. That is based off of their system requirements to properly run Starcraft II which can currently be found here http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=26242&locale=en_US

If you're building with a 1366 platform, X58motherboard you'll probably want 6 GB. That platform is geared to run on tri-channel RAM configurations and so 3x2 GB for gaming is fine. If you're building around 1156, 1155, or AMD CPU's then 4 GBs for gaming is fine. Either way you'll want 1600 speed DDR3. If this is a gaming rig then you won't use any more than that. If you do end up using applications requiring more RAM then it is a very simple process to add more RAM at a later time.
or... you could just try 2 GBs and see what happens.

Yes. What CPU do you have? Any new CPU other than i7-9** will have a dual channel memory controller, get 4GB of RAM (2 x 2GB) or 8GB (2 x 4GB), RAM prices are pretty low ATM. For i7-9**, get 6GB (3 x 2GB)
