RAM PF Usage

I have a friend who has a P4 mobile notebook of 1.6Ghz processor, 1GB ram and running on XP Home SP2. He has been telling me that his notebook started off with at least 38 processes and a PF usage of 250MB. He wanted to know if it is normal for these figures and any solutions of making his computer responds faster as it tends to lag off further when additional applications are launched manually on top of those startup processe. He has also checked with config utility and disable those unneccessary programs on startup. However, thats the best he can do and his computer still tends to lag and freeze when using.

So any help will be greatly appreciated.

PF Usage in Task manager is misleading, it's not actually what it says it is. It's really a combination of how much page file and physical memory is in use.

There's usually not much you can do to speed things up once you've stopped unnecessary prorams from running.

what is more important ia CPU usage. With no progs running in backgroun / foreground ( including A/V that start up with pc) should be zero to 3%. Also the next graph to the right should be 2 graphs if you have HT pent 4.
