RAM Problem

I have just purchased this laptop: TOSHIBA Tecra A9-S9016X and installed this RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)

but the system is only reading 3Gigs... below are links from Newegg.com. Thanks for all your help!

Hmm i heard/read that windows xp's max RAM is 3 or 3.5GB of memory

you'll need a 64bit OS to take advantage of 4gb or more

how do i find out what os i have... all it says is windows xp pro... it says that its up to 4gigs max...

You have the 32 bit version of XP pro. 3.25-3.5gb is the most you'll see out of it. What are you using it for that requires 4gb of ram?

well i am using it for video editing... i have ran studio 10 on it a couple of times already and it works fine... i just wish i knew that it only would take 3gigs... then i would have only purchased one two gig stick instead of two... is there a way that i would be able to upgrade it to the 64bit?

As cheap as memory is these days, it was probably smart to do it that way. You can always upgrade but there are issues with 64 bit versions as not a lot of hardware and software like 64 bit.
