RAM problem

I have tried to re-install the windows xp for my computer, however, my RAM is dead while the windows is installing. Could some advice me what problems might be?
 
After I inserted a Samsung 256MB DDR400 RAM, the computer was able to start so I thought the RAM is dead.

But the computer just hang up when it gets to the windows xp. I dont want to re-install the window just yet in case the RAM is dead again :(

The computer is running at Pentium 2.4G, CD-RW, 40GB HDD, Floppy Drive, Geforce 2 MX Video Card, and I dont know the motherboard model. Hope this information may help. Thanks
 
i wish i knew what you are getting at. if you inserted the ram and it works then did you take it out for some reason?
 
No I didn't after inserted the Samsung RAM.

My computer is using one 256MB RAM. I could not boot up the computer (i.e. with beep sound) when using the old RAM. After I inserted the new Samsung RAM, the computer could boot up but just hang up when it got into the windows.
