Ram Question(s)

I am a big fan of MMORPGs and I paly every good one.. currently on World of Warcraft since the last Christmas... I lag baddly in all of these games, I have many games installed that take up space, but my main problem is my poor ammount of ram, I have 300 something... it's pathetic.. where can I find the cheapest 512 or 1g of ram for Windows XP dimmension 4550... I believe it's PC2700 DDR...but im not 100% sure, I found these forums just to ask. Please help.

what kind of internet connection do you have. lag comes from your connnection, not from your system. if you have broadband then it could be your computer. do game run slow when you play on single player or just online?

if you wanna buy more ram, i say go to www.newegg.com
 
DSL Connection on a router with 3 other computers, one which powergames aswell. Some lag is due to connection, some is freeze lag due to the small ram. It can't load everything in time. I do have a GeForce 5800 if thats any good.
 
Yes that's it.. 384.. of course not, I have a 128 and well a 200 something ( too tired to do math ) but I might have to go with 512... anywhere I can get it oh say around 30-45$? On supersale or anything?
 
if i were you id go for 1Gb of Ram.

im playing WoW 2. and my old pc had 1Gb SDRAM ( so pre-DDR ) wich run at 133MHz. yours runs at 333MHz.
but still.. my pc ran WoW better as my friend one, wich had a AMD 64 3000+ and 512Mb RAM, while mine was a AMD xp 1600+ with the 1Gb RAM. we had the same grafics card back then ( fx5200 ).

als, i have 1Gb now, and absolutely no problem when playing :)

anyway.. for about $70 you can get nice RAM, because you probably cant OC a compaq anyway ;)
 
Thanks a lot arch, I already orderd 512 for 40$ though, decent deal I noticed.. I didn't have enough to spend on 1 gig, unfortunatley.. if I could have found one for 50$ i would have tackled it, but oh well. Will 512 + 200(something) I have in there be enough to run with no problem, Im talking about feel free to go to Ironforge without sighing? Or perhaps PvP without dying due to lag?
