RAM Question

Alright, I have a new Quad core Intel Core i7 processor (1.73 GHz) with Turbo Boost up to (2.93GHz) and 6MB of Ram on a 64-bit operating system. I opened my task manager to see why my RAM usage is at 38% when the computer is on idle with nothing running other than the OS itself. I click on memory in order to sort by the highest one, and the explorer.exe (aka Task manager) is on the top with about 46,952K while all the rest of minimal. Can anyone speculate to why my RAM is running at a high level, or is this normal? Also I have Kaspersky and as of right now I have no viruses on my system so I know that is not the problem.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

It's normal. Windows 7 and Vista scale their RAM usage to your system. If you have a lot, then it'll use a lot. It helps keep the system snappy, since pulling data from the RAM is quite a bit faster than pulling it off of the hard drive.

edit: By the way, you have 6GB of RAM. That's 6144MB. :)
