RAM Question

i have a question about my computer, it is an emachines T3990 and basically i am trying to tailor fit it to get as much gaming i can out of it, it is a rather simple machine and i was wondering what i could do to get the most out of it as possible to run todays games..... processor= Celeron D 2.80 Ghz 256 MB Ram i am reletevly new with modifying computers so i could use all the help i could get, here is the exact stats taken off the emachines website......

any pointers and advice is welcome.
 
for todays game.. u might need a better graphics card and u can update your RAM.. 512 is sufficient.. 1GB is better..it'll also depends on what games u are planning to play
 
well if i can id like to play graphically demanding games like doom and half life and maybe by some miracle battlefield 2, if a graphics card can make games run smoothly with a celeron processor i will be suprised
 
by the way i just inserted a 256 mb memory stick into my computer along with the 256 mb stick that came with the computer and there was a drastic change in performance for the better but i looked under the system specs in the control panel and it only reads 496 mb of RAM...any ideas why it would do this?
 
the intel is onboard so it is used to run it somewhat...thats y it shows 496..but its really 512

there is a thread on here listing video drivers on behalf of playing BF2..etc.. i forgot which one..search for it. sorry. but if u demand those games..i would really recommend 1gb instead of 512
 
yes without question i am going to get 1 gig and i am beginning to hunt for a graphics card that will be suffice but you are sure the celeron processor will cause no trouble playing the game smoothly?
