Ram question?

Nope, you'll either have to change your OS or motherboard. What OS and what Motherboard do you have?

I'm not sure I'm not home to look.. but its a ASUS G72GX WITH THE CORE 2DUO I plan on putting an SSD and a core 2 quad in it but I'm not sure if its worth it? I'm going to be using it for a little gaming and mostly video editing. I just bought the laptop off a friend for $300.

Yep, you are stuck with a maximum of 6GB from what i've seen online.

I'll let others reply for the computer parts.

Ok lets just say I have a laptop that from 09-11 its got a NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 260 windows 7 intel core 2 duo processor with lga775 fitting on the mother board. It has a 500gb hdd and has another slot for another hard drive. I was wanting to put a 250gb SSD in the other slot. And replace the cpu with an intel core 2 quad q9550 2.83 ghz. Is it worth it to put the extra money into it and just use it for little gaming and video editing with sony vegas? Or spend 800-900 on a new laptop? After I'm done it will have maybe 550 into it?

A little confusing info here. You say you have a laptop with a gtx 260. A gtx 260 is a desktop graphics card not a laptop. And you can't fit a desktop processor, the Q9550, into a laptop. So the information you are giving is misleading. Are you sure you have this all correct?

Well, you need to make sure you are noting the correct specs. You have a gtx 260m with M meaning its a mobile version. And it has a p8700 processor which is a slot BGA479. You can't put a 775 processor in there. You will need to contact asus to find out what processor you can upgrade to. You may have a hard time finding a place that carries mobile processors and the paying the cost for them. Without making sure the laptop has adequate cooling for a quad core, you'll burn it up. I think your best bet is to sell it and buy a laptop with the specs you want.

Yeah, my guess too. The laptop comes with a quad too, but I bet the CPU cooling is a little different on the quad models. Or even if the bios on the Dual would recognize a quad or even a bios update.
