i read the 101 sticky. not completely mind you... but scanned through it trying to find this out. i'm trying to upgrade my vaio. no clue what the mobo is. so i can't really find out all the specs and stuff. the ram in it now is ddr 400 pc 3200. i know it can have up to 4ghz. i shopped newegg and saw... i think it was like ddr 440 pc 3500? not sure. my question summed up i guess would be? as long as it's the same number of pins and the same ddr (as in it's replacing ddr with ddr as opposed to ddr2) can you use it? what do i need to find out about my mobo before spending/settling... whatever. p.s. i love this website. another p.s. i have a compaq i can't get to work and i've given up on it. 15 gb hdd... celeron 633 mhz... 190 mb pc100 sdram... cd-rom and cd-rw... any interest in buying? i'll sell cheap. no o/s. the hardware all worked until i formatted the hdd... now i get a ntldr cant open drive message. stupid compaq and their stupid messages.

E-mail me or PM me about Compaq or do you want me to PM you? Anyway, its pretty easy to read mobo (Motherboard) and its easy to locate DDR Memory also. I believe DDR or DDR-2 is pretty much the same. Upgrading the Ram Memory is always easy to do. Just look your current Ram Memory on your motherboard and pop it out and look at the bottom part edge to edge. DDR or DDR-2 have one U-Hole Looking. THe Normal RAM Memory has two U-Hole Looking. If you don't get it what i'm takling about, let me know because I can send a picture in here to show you. Well, Hope this help a little bit. :)
