RAM slot/usage question about Mobo

I'm reading the manual and I think it says that you can only use the DDR2 OR the DDR slots, but not both, however it's very vague Does anyone know for sure?

You thought correctly. You cant use both ddr2 and ddr at the same time. You must choose one or the other.

Why did they put two different styles on one board? Is there an advantage of using one over the other?

They put both on so you have the option. Generally the DDR have better timming and the DDR2 have higher speeds. Right now it not a major difference between the two. Once speeds like ddr2 833 comes more common then proberly the ddr2 will be better.

Kind of a bridge between new and old technologies. I have a board that has slots for SDRAM and DDR RAM, and like yours you can only use one or the other.

They put the two differnet kinds so that way a single board will sell more if you know you can use the DDR now and then later on use DDR2. And stuff like that. DDR2 is just mainly newer than DDR. But DDR still works just fine.

Hehe you can try .... wont be happy with the lack of results though :P

Relatively speaking, DDR2 is more expensive without the performance gains and it also allows people to be future compatible without having to whack out the cash now

Hehe I had one of those ... the SDRAM/RDRAM ones were wierd tho

And stuff like that. DDR2 is just mainly newer than DDR
But unless you're packing the Fatal1ty or P5GD2 you wont really be able to take advantage of the good DDR2 stuff
