RAM software

That software usually causes more problems than anything. Besides the operating systems of today(xp,Vista, Windows 7) does a pretty good job with memory handling anyway.

I agree most OS's today do just fine. If you're running low on RAM, you probably should simply upgrade. However, entering task manager should give you a pretty good idea of which programs are hogging the most memory. In my case it looks as if Firefox is being my worst memory hog (followed by Desktop Window Manager :P) If you see specific programs taking a tremendous amount of memory, or simply have many programs running in the background, consider unloading them. Most programs have methods to disable if they open during startup.
