ram speed dilemma

hello, i have a hp zv5420, the specs are below

Microprocessor 3EGHz Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology
Microprocessor Cache 1MB L2 Cache
Memory 512MB DDR SDRAM (2 x 256MB) at 333MHz
Memory Max 1280MB DDR SDRAM (1 x 256MB, 1 x 1024MB)
Video Graphics ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9000 IGP
Video Memory 128MB DDR (shared)
Hard Drive 60GB 4200 Hard Drive

i want to add 1024 mb, which will put me at a max of 1.25 gb.
my question is i am looking a ram with speeds of 533 mhz,
will this cause any problems using a different speed than the internal ram, the factory ram is 333 mhz. as well , will the computer be using the extra speed or will it still run at 333mhz. i have temporarily put a 512-400 mhz in and it seems stable.
I have been trying to play FEAR and it was freezing. this prompted me to look into ram.

thanks ryan
also , does anyone know how to find your FSB speed?

There is no "internal" ram, i think you mean the ram that came with your computer. If its DDR333, then theres no point in getting anything higher than DDR333, since it wont run any faster.

And the reason for fear freezing is probably your video card, since i highly doubt it can handle fear.

ram

yes you are right it is the non removable ram in the laptop.
asfor the video card, fear ask minimum 64 and i have a 128it seems to do much better since i intalled the 512 ram, which puts me at 640 ram
WOW i thought i had a half decent machine for gaming!!!
will lowering setting on game solve some issues?
thanks

as for the original question , i can get the 533mhs 1024 ram for half of the 333 mhs ram, should i save the money and put in 533 or spend and use 333? i dont care if it does not run at 533, i just dont want conflicts.

thanks

I wouldn't mix up the RAM, even if they advertise that the motherboard with clock down to adjust. First, I would check if the motherboard can handle the 533 mhz RAM or not. If it's got 333 sticks in there, I'd use other 333 sticks with the existing, like Geoff5093 said. Its probably cheaper too. Also, even if a games minimum requirement is 64mb vram, if you're only hitting minimum, there are times where you can stall or lag.
