Ram Start up question

So i just got my computer put together and i turned power on and hit the switch and lights and fans come on and then everything stops about 5 seconds after i turned it on so i checked all connections and realized that i had forgot to put ram in and my question is could this have damaged something and that caused system to just shut off no power? i installed ram but have not retried for fear something in PSU might be bad? thx 4 any comment/suggestions Specs on system are P4 640 3.2 gigabyte GA-81925x-g Rev 2.0 Geil DDR2 533 PC2 4300 WD Raptor 74 GB 10000 RPM gigabyte 6600 gt

No. It's supposed to do that :) (or beep like mad)
 
Ya so i turned back on and everything is fine all seems to work good have not loaded OS yet but in Bios memory was recognized. It just really scared me when it did that being this is my first build and i am a rookie and the thought of 1100$ that i just spent going up in smoke scared the shiznit out of me Thx 4 the help
