Ram tester?

Ok now I'm pretty sure the answer to my following question is going to be no, but I will ask it anyways.

Is there anyway to test laptop ram OUTSIDE of the Laptop, something like an adapter that you can hook up to a desktop and test to see if the ram is working?
 
There is, but you have to be a technician to buy it. Well, I guess you don't HAVE to be, but it would be a lot easier to get your hands on one.
 
There are, but they are expensive, and as long as you can get the labtop to boot off of a floppy or CDROM then there's not really a point for spending the money.
