Ram Usage

Motherboard: MSI K9n Platinum
RAM: Kingston Value Ram (2x2GB)

I've read articles about windows not showing 4GB of ram which basically means that anything over 3-3.5 can't be used.

Problem is my window shows the 4GB yet is refusing to use all my ram. It uses 3.01 then hits a brick wall. Obviously my rig becomes very choppy.

How can I find out what it's being used on? Now I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be going towards my on board sound card, but 1 entire GB of RAM?

do you have onboard graphics?

vista idles using 1gig gig of ram, vista is a known ram hog

i had 4gig of ram with vista and found no problems gaming etc!!

Nope no onboard graphics card.

I basically have Football Manager windowed mode running while using Firefox on a dual monitor system. I also listen to music on Windows Media Player.

So hold on are you saying that Vista uses 1GB when idling (when I'm not using the computer seems obvious but jest need to make sure) or are you saying it uses 1GB of ram no matter what.

I'm only using 1.1GB of my RAM - But that's with me watching a movie, 10 tabs on firefox, winamp open, photoshop, moving pictures around and anti-virus updating. Also I don't shutdown my computer often. I only put it to sleep.. :) But I have Windows 7. If I did all that stuff with vista I'd need to buy 10 more GB's of RAM. lol.

vista has always been a ram hog, seriously-but you shouldnt be struggling with 4gig unless you are using some intensive programs!

one thing that makes windows 7 better than vista is the fact that they have the ram usage sorted!
