ram usage

if i have 1gig of ram and i want to monitor how much is in use (such as cpu monitoring usage) how do i go about doing so?

(I'm assuming you have Windows XP) CTRL+ALT+DELETE > in the task manager, click "Performance"

At the bottom, in the upper-right box (Physical Memory (K)) it tells you how much you have, and how much is available.

so if the "available" number is far away from zero (300+ mb), is it safe to set the page file to zero? what confuses me now is that i have unused ram, but the page file is using 550~ mb

Are you sure you have 300+ mb free? you must remember the number that the number that the task manager tells you is in kilobytes

Well have much have you used total(IE at the bottom) That's what I watch more than anything. Currently my laptop's using 247M/924M

it was into the 300k kilobytes. so divide by 1k = 300 mb, correct?

302m/2462m at the moment (613 while running WoW)

If you're only using 302MB right now, I see nothing to worry about. I don't always pay attention to how windows divides up the physical RAM/Page file, but you're certainly not using too much RAM...

cachemanxp is crap and total nonsense. totally useless as far as i'm concerned. My suggestion is to never set your pagefile to 0. I've got 2gb and still got 1.2gb pagefile.
