Ram - which type is the best?

I take it 800 is the fastest, with 533 the slowest?\

Now for the questions that ensue (sorry but i need to know lol):

So if i had dual channel 667 would it be faster than dual channel 553?

Also, if a mobo supports dual channel 667, will it support dual channel 553, or just normal memory modules for that matter?

Last of all, ddr800 has come out very recently hasnt it, making it relatively expensive?

thankyou for any help in advance

Yup, as far as the interface. There could be faster and slower chips, but I doubt that'd be the case :P

Yup

RAM speeds should be interchangeable. A 533 mobo should be able to use 800 RAM, and an 800 mobo should use 533 RAM. There are those acceptions(take my friends laptop) but TECHNICALLY, any DDR2 RAM should work in any DDR2 mobo

I wouldn't say it's very recent, but it is more expensive than others. Typically people say go with 667. The performance isn't that much lower than 800MHz and it is cheaper.

lol, my saviour, but just a couple more qestions to go:

so from a casual gamers point of view, there is not much point in me investing a dual channel ddr2 800 capable mobo?

So if i buy a dual channel ddr2 667 capable mobo, i should be able to run dual channel ddr2 533 on it? lets say this is the mobo ;) : http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products...rboard&ProductID=2331&ProductName=GA-945GM-S2

lastly, on this mobo i can also run just normal sticks of ddr2 ram, not in dual channel if i want/need to?

sorry if im a bit repetative, i just need to be sure, lol :D

I'm still running DDR400 and my system plays just fine  Haha, ok, probably not the best comparison, but yeah, something less than 800 would be just fine.

If you look on their memory compatability chart, they have a list of 533 RAM you can use :P Of course others should work, but those are verified.

It shouldn't be a problem. I know my roommate is currently running in single channel. The only thing is if/when you upgrade, will the new stick work in duel channel...or you just get two new sticks

hmm, yer i was wondering :P

thanx for all the help guys, much appreciated, now i can go and spend my money :D

Personally, I think that you should spend the extra and get the DDR2-800 motherboard. Of course, it depends what budget you have...
