i got 2 1gb kingstons hyperx ram sticks there ddr2 could i stick another 2gb stick in there and have it work

the frequency says 470 but that seems slow

1 - How many slots does your computer have?

2 - By adding a single module to an existing dual-channel setup, you may see some reduced performance. (i.e. you may be better off getting two 2GB sticks or two more 1GB sticks)

3 - 470? Is your system overclocked?

Or are you talking about DDR2 400 RAM?

If you overclocked the FSB, you have overclocked the RAM. Usually no big deal, but it seems like the motherboard is clocking back the RAM because your base bus speed pushes your RAM beyond what it thinks it can handle. You should see something above 800MHz listed for that memory.

What is your overclock?

Ah, OK. Since your CPU has a built in memory controller when you overclock the CPU your are going to overclock the RAM. What is the memory divider set to? It could be scaled way back for some reason.

To answer your original question, yes, the extra stick of RAM will work in that setup. You will lose some speed from breaking the dual-channel setup though.

The RAM in the link you posted runs at 5-5-5-15. This is slightly faster/better than 5-5-5-18, and that RAM will run at 5-5-5-18 if you must. In other words, it will work fine.
