I know that ddr2 rams are 533, 667, 800.
and that ddr3 are 1333 etc.
My question is, is the 1066 a ddr2 or ddr3?
I am a newbie in this and I need to get these facts right.

Both DDR2 and DDR3 offer speeds of 1066, although DDR2 only officially goes up to 800, so the DDR2 1066 you see is just overclocked RAM.

How do I know if the one sold in my local store is an overclocked one or a ddr3?

It would say on the package whether it's DDR2 or DDR3. But unfortunately, unlike comparing DDR and DDR2, DDR2 and DDR3 looks similar and have the same number of pins, so it's not as easy to see the difference if you're not positive what both look like.
