i have 512mb ddr pc3200 in my computer right now, can i buy a 1gb ddr pc3200 stick? or can i only get another 512mb?

You could put as much ram in your pc as your motherboard will support. If you only have 512mb in you should have some empty memory slots. To answer your question, yes, you could buy a gig of ram.

BTW: I'm still learning about pc's, so if what I said is incorrect, I apologize :)

Well, the without knowing the motherboard (the one thing not in your specs, OEM?) I don't know how many DIMM slots you have. Assuming your 512 MB now is on one stick you'll at least be able to add another stick, and yes you should be able to add a 1 GB stick. I would just go with another 512 stick unless you're going to be using apps that you know are going to use more that a gig of RAM.

i agree

I believe that I would go with 512 also just for the mear fact of the price difference and also that you really probably wouldn't use it all.......but there is a slim chance you could.....

Im assuming that's 1x512 and as such the answer would be yes for the 1GB DIMM :)

my motherboard only has 2 memory slots, and one of them has the 512 in it. Only reason why i want to buy a gig and not another 512 is because in the future im sure games will require alot more memory, and if i want to upgrade i would have to throw out one of my 512's.

Well, with only 2 memory slots you can support up to 2 gigs of ram then. I would buy a gig if you plan to play future games and even the high-end games now. But keep in mind if you want to upgrade after that, then you will have to get rid of the 512 stick and put another gig in.

Haha nice! It's funny to look into them buried threads ain't it? ;)
haha, yes it is. I want to see of some people just reply to this and not notice when it was made. I tried to find the first thread I made here, but haven't yet. Besides, this was over 3 years ago so I was a noob back then :P

Hahahaha I'm sorry and with all respect but yes! n00b!! :P :P

Don't worry, look at my first posts, straight out the n00b factory! :D

you can mix whatever capacity memory you have but all the memory will just downclock to the lowest speed. i had a bunch of old computer parts and i built a complete one with it. with 4 slots, i put a 256mb, 128mb, and 64mb stick together and wit worked fine.

EDIT: you want to hold on to those old parts huh? ddr2 is soo cheap now. even cheaper than ddr so buying a 1gig stick might be more expensive than ddr2 sticks i think

There you go [0MEGA], your first victim. ;)

On topic:

Yeah man, DDR memory is expensive right now! 2GB will cost you around $80 while you can get DDR2 which is faster for like $35

lol yeah something didn't add up in my head. i was wondering how can someone with that many posts and able to build a water cooled setup to ask such a basic question. but i answered just in case...
