does anyone know what the cause of the problem is? my computer won't boot past the 12gig memory check OK. i have to take out the onboard battery, and then restart it several times, and it may boot past memory check. i've checked all my wires, the computer was running fine yesterday, and once i got it to continue to boot, everything seems fine. I don't think its a hard drive issue, because if it was it would just say "no boot drive".

Could be your DIMMs are not installed in the correct bays on the motherboard or maybe the DIMMs are incompatible. Start removing DIMMs and see if the problem persists.

Make sure the board isn't shorting on the case, take it out, rest it on a book or a cardboard box or something and try to boot it then.

Make sure all appropriate power cables are plugged in.

Remove your 7970 and try using the onboard video if the board supports it.

Maybe try updating the BIOS too.

the dimms are specced for DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing
8-8-8-24

but my mobo reads them at 1333. I do "overclock" to 1600.

i've tested each dimm individually and still have the "pausing" at the mem check.

i'll pull everything out to test the shortage next.

This problem became more severe after my psu died. do you think that could have messed the board up?

well it still has the same problem. takes a few restarts for it to load past the ram. i'll check for some bios update. i checked all the capacitors. no buldge or orange goo.

Try manually setting them to 1600 and the timing to 8-8-8-24. Plus manually set the voltage too.
