random freezes

all of the sudden my computer has become useless. It randomly totally freezes, no mouse movement, no anything. Has to be manually reset. It run prime95 for a while without freezing, and it ran furmark without freezing. Passed the windows memtest. Just randomly freezes. According to hd tune my hard drive is fine too. I have seen this problem with windows 7 on some forums, but not an answer to my problem. Reinstall? I think updates might help but it won't stay going long enough to update :\

Does it freeze if you go into safe mode?

I am using a different monitor, so when i got into safe mode for some reason the resolution is still set at what my 22in uses, so it won't display :|
